Why should we combat immorality?

I find it interesting that as a society, we fight very hard against vices such as smoking cigarettes, drugs, alcohol abuse, etc. yet at the same time society promotes something that is far more dangerous than the above mentioned activities. I am talking about immorality. There are many activities that fall into the category of immorality and the Bible reveals what they are: fornication (any form of sexual activity outside of marriage, including your thought life), adultery (any form of sexual activity between 2 people who are not married to each other, yet at least one of them is married). The other sexual sins that follow fit into the previous 2 categories such as; cohabitation, bisexuality, homosexuality, lesbianism, incest, pedophiles, etc). Some of the previous mentioned forms of sexual immorality are totally forbidden in our society while at the same time, the same society allows and promotes other forms of sexual immorality. All sexual sin (immorality) is condemned in the Bible, and with good reason, because it (sexual immorality) destroys any society that it is present in.

According to the N.E. Journal of Medicine, a person who smokes cigarettes shortens his life by an average of 7.3 years. At the same time the Oxford University’s International Journal of Epidemiology has a report that claims that the life expectancy of a homosexual is shortened 8-20 years because of his homosexual lifestyle. Why do we fight so hard to stop smoking while at the same time, promote a lifestyle that is far more dangerous than smoking? According to the stats, immorality is 3 times worse for your health than smoking. My question is, “if immorality is so destructive then why is it being promoted in public schools?”. In a public school in the State of Michigan, there was a course taught in a public school entitled “How to be Gay”. This does not make any sense. We might as well promote drug use and smoking in the public schools as well.

I have already shared some motives for the fight against immorality but I would like to share some more just to help you understand the dangers of immorality. For example, the magazine Between the Lines from the State of Michigan also has a report presenting the risk of anal cancer among homosexuals. The report claims that a homosexual male who participates in anal intercourse has a 4,000 % greater risk of developing anal cancer than a male who does not participate in this activity. This is from a magazine specifically for homosexual males. The same article also claims that there is no form of “safer sex” among homosexuals that puts them at a lower risk of anal cancer. The Medical Institute of Sexual Health has a report demonstrating that homosexuals are at a greater risk than heterosexuals of developing/contracting diseases such as: HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, anal cancer, gonorrhea, gastro-intestinal infections, etc. This is all caused by the lifestyle choice of being immoral. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention claims that men who have sex with men (homosexuals) are 860% more likely to become infected with STD’s than the general public. If you are heterosexual you are less likely to get infected and if you are moral (not participating in sex outside of marriage) then your risk decreases to almost 0%. The stats are clear, immorality is very destructive.

As good people, we must fight for the good and protection of the society in which we live. At the same time we must offer hope to the people who are trapped in an immoral lifestyle. Immorality enslaves you and you cannot break free. God is the only One who can set you free. The Good News of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ came to this earth and died on the cross to pay for our sins. He also resurrected from the dead to offer us freedom from slavery to sin. The Bible says the following:

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. (I Corinthians 6:9-11)

May the Lord help us stop immorality dead in its tracks before it is able to destroy more lives.
