How to have a winning year in 2013

2013-New-Year-1As I prepare to teach this Friday night at our youth group’s first meeting of the New Year, 2013, I want to encourage the youth to prepare themselves to have a winning year. What I mean by winning year is, when you look back over 2013, you can say that you accomplished many things for the Lord by serving the people around you. Many people just live their lives day by day with an attitude of mediocrity. They are satisfied with the “status quo”. Continue reading

The role of the family in society

It has been said that the family is the bedrock of society and can be proven by the fact that all over the world every society is structured by the same pattern. A man and woman marry and form a family. This process is repeated multiple times making multiple families which form villages, regions, and eventually countries. When several countries come together they form a continent and all of the continents make up the world. The foundation of this entire process is the family. I propose in this essay that the family has a crucial role in society by being a model of love in three different aspects; love for the children, love between husband and wife, and finally love in promoting moral values. My tribute to Melvin “Bubba” Brewer or “Dad”

I was thinking about what I wanted to say at Dad’s funeral today. I could not quite come up with the words to put it all in order so I just opened the Scriptures for some inspiration. That is one thing that the Scriptures do for me, they inspire. As I was thinking, I realized that my Dad was also an inspiration to me. In fact, I believe he was so inspiring because of his love for the Scriptures and his desire to live them out in his daily life. My Dad was genuine. What you saw was what you got. He did not “play” church. He did not want to impress everyone with his “Christian” lingo. He just put his head down and “did” what the Bible says to do instead of just talking about what the Bible says that we should do. He knew how to love. He loved his wife with all of his heart. He loved his sons with everything that he was. We never had a stranger walk into our house (once you walked in the door you were a friend and treated like a family member). Our friends were part of the family. All people were treated with respect. Continue reading

Homosexuals are against the poor and needy of society

Have you heard the latest news from the homosexual crowd? It is quite shocking. Before jumping in and looking at what homosexuals are doing to hurt the poor and needy this year I would like to present what the Bible says about the attitude that homosexuals have towards other people. This can be found in Genesis 19 as well as in Ezekiel 16.

1) Unified – all them men came from every corner of the city

News for the pro abortion crowd

The Bible has spoken for centuries of the wrongs of abortion. Modern man has decided that he does not want to acknowledge God so he can do what he wishes. Abortion has existed as long as sin has existed so it is not a new phenomena. The pro choice crowd screams that it has a right to choose who lives and who dies. The question is, what if you make the wrong choice or a mistake in this “simple little procedure”? Well, you do not have to wait for an answer. Tragedy has struck during the “simple abortion procedure”. It happened to a woman from Australia. She was told by doctors that one of her twins would be born with a birth defect so it would be better to abort that twin. She agreed to end the life of the baby with the defect. The problem is, the doctors murdered the wrong baby. The wrong twin was aborted. You can see the article here. Continue reading

Is it possible to be “good” without God?

This is a statement that I hear repeated among atheists. They say, “we can be good/moral without God“. My response to this is, “according to whose goodness or moral standards?” It all depends on your point of reference. If you compare your goodness and moral standards to Stalin or Hitler, then well, I guess you could say that you are “good and moral”. One the other hand, what if you compare your “goodness” to God’s or your “morals” to God’s? Can you do a lot of bad things but as long as you are not as bad as Hitler or Stalin, does that mean that you are “moral” or “good”? When you start shifting the goal posts, it is quite easy to kick a field goal. Continue reading

Still don’t think homosexuality is dangerous?

I just found some new info on the dangers of homosexuality. There are many who say that this is a harmless, alternative lifestyle that should be promoted just like heterosexuality. I could not disagree more. I have written much on this subject but I have to continue because the evidence continues to mount against homosexuality. It is dangerous for children to be around homosexuals. Read why here. Homosexuals are targeting children. See how here. They want to teach children in the public schools. HIV/AIDS is an epidemic among homosexuals in the USA.  Continue reading

Does God contradict Himself in the Bible?

If you have had many dealings with atheists then you know that they love to say that the Bible is not a trustworthy book because of the many, many contradictions that It contains. When asked for proof of just one contradiction, the usual line of argument is, “there are just so many, I cannot remember one at the moment.” Or one of my favorites is, “Joseph, Mary’s husband, had 2 different fathers according to the Gospel writers”. I have answered that fallacy in this article. I have noticed that the atheist crowd uses the same arguments to disprove the Bible. They all seem to make the same mistake of taking verses out of context and not studying the subject for themselves. They just take what others say on the subject as Gospel truth (yes, the pun was intended) and do not bother to do any research in the Bible Itself (and they call themselves open minded free thinkers, yet that all come from the same mold falling into the same fallacy, not to open minded or free thinking if you ask me). Here is the next supposed contradiction.

19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent ; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good ? (Numbers 23)

10 When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it. (Jonah 3)

Mississippi voted to uphold the legal murder of innocent children

If you do not know about the battle that took place in the state of Mississippi this election cycle then I would like to point out the battle over prop 26. Voting no on 26 meant that you were okay with the legal murdering of innocent babies in the womb. Voting yes meant that you understand God’s stance on life and chose to stand with Him. I am sad to say that 60% of the people who voted in the state of Mississippi voted for legal murder and took stance against God. I want to present God’s view of abortion (yes, the Bible talks specifically about abortion) and then call those who took a stance against God to repent publicly so that they can be forgiven and not experience God’s judgment in their lives. The dangers of moral relativism

Lately I have been hearing a lot about the dangerous idea of relativism. It hurts my heart when I realize how many people have so easily been deceived by this dangerous teaching. Even good people, with good intentions, have bought the lie of relativism. In order to discuss this subject, I would first like to look at a definition of the word relativism.

any theory holding that criteria of judgment are relative, varying with individuals and their environments.
