The results of being a righteous person (Psalm 1)

As I stated yesterday, I would like to continue to look at Psalm 1 and now gather information about the results of being a righteous man (right with God). Before we move to the next truths I would like to see if we can remember some things from the last article. The righteous man has a totally different lifestyle from the unrighteous man, even though they may occupy the same space in life, like at a job or recreation activity. The righteous man is different because his passion in life is the Word of God. In fact, he loves the Word of God so much that he devotes all of his life to knowing It and living It. His entire day, everyday, is spent in the Word of God by studying, pondering, and speaking It. His life is guided by the Bible (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth). Now we want to turn to the results of a life dedicated to the Word of God.

As you know, every cause has an effect. In other words, every action has a reaction. We call them consequences to your actions. The neat thing about God is the fact that He lets us choose the actions but He is the One who gives the consequences. But being a good God, He warns us of the consequences of both the good and the bad choices. In this text, Psalm 1, God gives us great insight on what happens to a man who chooses to dedicate his life to the Word of God.

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither ; And in whatever he does, he prospers. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous . . . (Psalm 1:3,6)

First of all he is like a tree firmly planted. Are you firmly planted (stable) in your life? Are you a wishy-washy person or a steadfast person? A person who anchors himself in the Word of God will be stable in all of his ways. Do you realize how many people suffer from depression in the 21st Century? It has been called the “sickness” of the 21st Century. There are many cases where the sickness is real, based on a chemical imbalance. There are also many cases where people are just not stable in their lives and usually you can draw the line and connect the dots between depression and lack of relationship with God through His Word. If I deal with a person who is “depressed” the first question that I ask is “how is your spiritual life?”. The answer is usually the same “nonexistent at the moment”. Do you want to be a stable person, dependable, able to endure the storms of life? Then you must meditate on the Word of God and find delight in It. Also you have to apply what you learn in your daily life (see verse 1 for application).

Secondly, a righteous man will yield fruit at the right time and have pretty leaves. His fruit is obvious. When you see the fruit you will know what kind of tree you have. An apple comes from an apple tree etc. The righteous man who is planted in the Word of God will produce righteous fruit. It will not be a guessing game, “is he a Christian or not?” Everyone will know as soon as the fruit comes. If there is no fruit or bad fruit then let’s not make excuses. Remember, the fruit comes in its season so if you do not see fruit immediately do not lose heart. Stay firmly planted in the Word of God and there will be fruit. If you remove the water source, the Word of God, then the fruit disappears and since the firm foundation is removed then you no longer have stability. Where does the Word of God rank in your life? How much fruit do you produce? What kind of fruit do you produce? Do people have to wonder if you are a righteous man or can they tell by your actions?

Thirdly, in whatever this man does, he prospers. This does not mean that he never fails at anything but it does mean that most of the things he does end up in prosperity. This is his way of life. Now, remember, his actions will be of a righteous man so do not think that this is a recipe to get whatever you want from God. A righteous man will occupy himself with the things of God and everything that he does will be for the glory of God so if this is the case then, everything that he does will prosper. God will be the One backing up what the righteous man does to make if prosper.

The fourth and final characteristic is the fact that the Lord knows the way of the righteous man. He is not alone in this world as so many people believe. When you have a relationship with God through His Word, and live according to His Word then God knows your way of life, He is with you and you will never be alone. Do you feel alone? Would you like the security of never being alone again? Dedicate yourself to the Word of God and He will know your way and you will prosper in all that you do. In the next article, I would like to address the lifestyle of the wicked man. Until then, God bless you as you seek to serve Him.

    • If you have nothing to add to the topic then why bother writing? Stay on topic and please stop trying to stir up arguments. The Bible speaks of people like you and what a true Christian should do with them.

O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge “- (I Timothy 6:20)

But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness, (II Timothy 2:16)

Reject a factious man after a first and second warning, knowing that such a man is perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned. (Titus 3:10-11)
