On which hour was Jesus crucified?

Here is another supposed contradiction by our atheist friend.

On which hour was Jesus crucified?

Mark 15:25 – It was the third hour when they crucified him.

John 19:14,15 – It was the day of Preparation of Passover Week, about the sixth hour. “Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews. But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!” “Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked. “We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered. Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.

Upon first glance, it seems that there is a blatant contradiction but upon just the slightest bit of research, a person with an ounce of intellectual integrity would quickly realize that the two different authors were using two different systems for marking time. During the time of Christ, in Israel, there were 2 calendars as well as 2 systems for telling time. It all depends on which system was being used by the author. Once could use the Roman calendar and time telling system while another could be using the Jewish calendar. The author John, uses the Roman system for telling time while the author Mark, uses the Jewish system for telling time. They both say the same thing. We have a similar system today. When the clock strikes 1 P.M. I can say, “it’s one o’clock” or I could say “it is thirteen o’clock”. I use two different numbers to say the same thing. Again, just a little bit of thought and research and one can see that there is no contradiction here.

Roman time went from midnight to midnight. The Jewish 24 hour time period began in the evening at 6 pm and the morning of that day began at 6 am. Thus Mark is stating that Jesus was crucified at 9 am and John is stating that the trial was still on at 6 am. (http://www.apocalipsis.org/difficulties/thirdhour.htm)

The point is, Jesus Christ was crucified. He was crucified to pay the price for your sins. He stood in your place and took your punishment. Are you grateful for that? He was not only crucified to pay the price for your sins but He also resurrected so that you can be set free from your slavery to sin (so that you can say “”NO” to sin and temptation). Have you received this amazing offer?

  1. Remember, it was not only Jesus, but you and I (and all of mankind) who hung on that cross that day friend (Col 3:3, Rom 6:6, Gal 2;20, 2 Cor 5:14 and more). We were in Him and Adam in us (our old man and nature) died there with Him on that glorious day. What are the implications then? What does this means to us now? That Christ is our life (Col 3:4). And ‘there is no longer Jew or Greek, male or female (no distinction in the flesh) for now, Christ is all’ (and in all). Gal 3:28. Amen.

    • Jesus is only in those who are born again. When we were born again we received the Holy Spirit (the 3rd person of the Holy Trinity) which dwells in us. If we have not been born again then we do not have the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ has nothing to do with us.

      • From the other site: The Holy Spirit gives us the power to live a sanctified life but we have to choose to obey. We were made holy (sanctified) through Jesus Christ but we have to choose to live it (we come back to choice again). When a person receives the Holy Spirit, he does not magically, like a robot, obey God. He has to choose obedience every single moment of every single day. Now, I true Christian will obey moment by moment but it is based on his choice not some magic spell that God casts on him.
