Why is the pro traditional marriage discussion needed in churches?

I would like to begin this article with a few quotes from my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

13 “You are the salt of the earth ; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden ; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Fix your eyes upon the Lord

As you go through the daily activities of life, do you have your eyes (your heart, your focus, your perspective) fixed on the things of God or on the quickly fading things of this earth? What are you living for, to eat, drink, and be merry because you never know how much longer you have or are you living with eternity as your perspective setter? What do you spend the majority of your time focusing on, the things that are here today and gone tomorrow or the things that will last all throughout eternity. The things of this world are fading away so if you are focused on them, you and your perspective on eternity will fade away along with them.

3 important truths from the story of the woman supposedly caught in adultery

I taught a lesson last night at the youth group from our series, “Supposed contradictions in the Bible”. The lesson was whether or not Jesus broke the Law of Moses by not condemning the woman caught in adultery. I wrote an article on the supposes contraction and upon close study, we discovered that there is no contradiction. Jesus proceeded correctly. You can read that article here. Continue reading

Can women teach in the church or not?

For some, this may seem like a silly question but in many churches, the women do not have the right to teach the Bible to anyone other than children or other ladies. Does Paul teach women that they cannot teach the Bible to men? This is an accusation that many skeptics of the Bible use to explain their reasons for not believing that the Bible is the Word of God or for their total denial of God. I would like to examine this subject as a whole instead of a small list of cherry picked verses taken out of context.

The Bible does teach that there are certain women who are not allowed to teach in the church, this is true. The Bible also teaches that there are certain men who cannot teach in the church either. I want to examine which women are able to teach, which ones are not able to teach, and then specific examples in the Bible of women who taught in the church. Continue reading

Sunday’s Sermon at Good News (Ephesians 4:17-24)

I had the privilege of attending Good News yesterday (after being away last week preaching at a different church) and was blessed to hear another sermon in the series based on the book of Ephesians. Pastor Vasile was home for a day or two before leaving on another trip and he was able to preach on Sunday morning. I would like to share the truths of the message with you here. Continue reading

Car accident; disaster or opportunity?

I hope that this title is a bit intriguing to you. None of us wants to be in a car accident. It is dangerous first of all and secondly, it can get pretty expensive. If the Bible teaches us that God works all things for the good of those who love and serve Him then I believe that God can even use an accident for His glory and for our good. I know that sounds a little strange but it is true. Continue reading

How do you handle the difficulties of life?

Once a person gets “saved” everything does not turn to champagne and caviar. Life is still hard. In fact, life gets even harder once you start living for the Lord because now people will watch you more closely to see how you handle difficulties since you claim to trust God in all things.

How do you handle things once you get sick and suffer through tough times? How do you handle the sickness of a child? How do you react when you see injustice or if it happens to you? These are all very real situations. What about when good friends suffer because of their kids’ mistakes and hardheadedness, how do you respond? Your response is very important and like in anything in life, the better prepared you are the better you will do.

Are you “saved”?

As I wrote the last article about justification and sanctification I realized that there is a need to write about getting “saved”. For the most part, many people believe that getting saved means avoiding the penalty of hell and going to heaven when you die . . .  If you are waiting for more, keep on waiting because that is what many believe. What about daily life? Do you just get saved from hell so that you can live the rest of your life the way that you want and then go to heaven after you die? Interestingly enough, Jesus said that He came to give us life, and life abundantly. That means for the here and now. Salvation is way more than just avoiding hell and going to heaven. In fact, the idea of salvation has a 3 part meaning: salvation past, present, future. Most of us learn the past and future parts. All of my sins were paid for (salvation past) and I will go to heaven when I die (salvation future). There is a 3rd aspect, the present, abundant life for the here and now. The abundant life Jesus is talking about is not health and wealth. I know lots of people who are experiencing abundant life and they are neither healthy (physically speaking) nor wealthy (in the physical, material sense). It is all about the spiritual, which also impacts the physical. Continue reading

An example of what it means to believe in Christ

What does true belief look like? Many people claim to believe in Christ but, is just the head knowledge enough? What happens to a person when he or she believes in Christ, not just the head knowledge, but total dedication based on that head knowledge? Is a statement made as a child enough? Is there any evidence, tangible evidence that proves that a person has really believed? Continue reading

Four things that keep us from experiencing genuine Christian community

efnl_camp_2011_thumb.jpgIf you have never studied the book of Ecclesiastes then I would encourage you to read it. When you do, you must be very careful not to miss the main point of the book. As a reader of any literature, you must use the rules of composition to help you understand the idea that the author wants to get across. If you do not use these rules, then you may miss the main point. Ecclesiastes is not a book that you just want to read. It is a book that you need to study so that you can understand what King Solomon wanted to get across.
