I have the privilege of leading a Bible study tomorrow night with our teens during our AWANA program at Southern Calvert Baptist Church. I love meeting with these teens because they are diligent students of the Word of God. They know that they cannot get away with “Sunday School” answers when studying the Bible inductively. They have to dig down deep into the text and find the answers. The last time that I met with them we studied the subject of Naturalism from a Biblical perspective. Our text was from a book in the Bible written by the wisest man who ever lived, apart from the person of Jesus Christ. King Solomon wrote the book of Ecclesiastes and that was the focus of our lesson. The lesson prior to that one was on the subject of Apologetics. Continue reading

Advent Sunday 1
Tomorrow is the first Sunday of Advent so I decided to look up what Scriptures are used on the first Sunday of advent according to the Catholic Church. I did not grow up celebrating Advent so I decided to take a look at the Advent calendar and see what the Scripture references were for the Sundays leading up to Advent. The first Sunday of Advent contains four Scripture passages: Continue reading
Created to serve a Sovereign God
This week in our Connect Groups at Southern Calvert Baptist Church, we are finishing up our study of the first book of the Bible, Genesis. The name Genesis means beginnings. We have learned a lot about God over this past 3 month period. We have also learned a lot about ourselves. God has revealed parts of His character to us through the different Names that He uses to describe Himself in the book of Genesis. We have discovered that He is: Continue reading
Principles of Leadership from Nehemiah
I love the Old Testament book of Nehemiah. I have been studying it off and on for the past month or so. I have already written some articles on the first two chapters of Nehemiah’s book. I invite you to read them.
Difficult Days are here
I was encouraged by our lesson on the Apostle Paul’s second epistle to his best disciple, Timothy. It was a sobering lesson because of the nature of it. I believe that it is a necessary lesson for our modern world. Our time was spent studying chapter three of the epistle. Chapter three has a shocking beginning. Continue reading
The Scriptures lead us to Christ
I am excited to spend some time this evening with our T&T kids during AWANA. They have been learning about the importance of the Word of God. Tonight, we are going to focus on how the Scriptures lead us to faith in Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul explains the vital role of the Scriptures when it comes to placing our faith in Jesus Christ.
14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from childhood you have known the Sacred Writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (II Timothy 3)
The Sacred Writings is a reference to the Holy Scriptures. Timothy’s mother and grandmother taught him the Scriptures from his early childhood. The Scriptures opened Timothy’s mind and led him to place his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This echos something very similar that Jesus told the Pharisees. Continue reading
The POWER of the Word of God
Last night I had the privilege of teaching the Apostle Paul’s second epistle to his beloved disciple, Timothy. The lesson was based on chapter two. The previous lesson was also based on chapter two on the importance of entrusting the Word of God to faithful people. Second Timothy is a treatise on discipleship. According to Paul in his famous epistle to the Romans, he declared: Continue reading
