I am getting ready to lead my weekly staff Bible study and I want to write out the lesson here, giving me an opportunity to think through what I want to teach. Currently, we are studying the Biblical Names of God. Our current Name for God is Jehovah-jireh. Today, I am taking a break to study the topic of the Lord’s Supper. I am afraid that there is much confusion in our church today on why we take communion and what its purpose is. I would like to clarify that from the Word of God. I do not want to share what I have been “taught”, think, feel, or believe. Instead, I want to examine the Scriptures to see what God actually teaches on the subject. There are many different misconceptions today because so few actually study the topic as described in the Word. They just hear others teach on the subject and take the second hand knowledge at face value. In order to better understand this topic, take a moment to read I Corinthians 11. I included the entire chapter because the context is very important. When teaching on the Lord’s Supper, many teachers just start with verse 23. We need to see the entire context to understand what the Apostle Paul had in mind when writing about communion. Continue reading
There is a lot of talk about the murder of George Tiller in the news today and by people in general. The “left” will take its typical approach speaking out of the barbaric action of the murder and somehow will end up either blaming Bush or “right-wingers” for the disaster. I was surprised to see the Government send out the U.S. Marshalls to protect the murders who murder on a daily basis through the barbaric practice of abortion. I know that murder is wrong and I condemn the actions of the man who murdered Tiller but has anyone thought about how the man who murdered Tiller may have been affected by an abortion? Maybe this man is also a victim. I know that the “left” will make Tiller the only victim but what if the man who murdered Tiller had experienced an abortion firsthand against his will? What if his wife or daughter had an abortion? What he was for the abortion until after it happened and is now suffering from the guilt. You see, the abortionists do not explain the consequences of abortion. They only tell you that they are “removing cells” and not a human life. I know Tiller’s family is hurting and grieving today but what about all the hurting families who experience the evils of abortion every single day? As far as the U.S. Marshalls being sent out to protect murderers I am a bit confused. I thought the Marshalls were sent to capture the criminals and not protect them? Am I wrong for thinking that? I will end with a quote from the Bible that I feel is right in line with what happened to Mr. Tiller.
“But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out.” (Numbers 32:23)
Mr. Tiller’s sin found him out and he had to pay the Piper as we say because as the Bible says
