Once a person gets “saved” everything does not turn to champagne and caviar. Life is still hard. In fact, life gets even harder once you start living for the Lord because now people will watch you more closely to see how you handle difficulties since you claim to trust God in all things.
How do you handle things once you get sick and suffer through tough times? How do you handle the sickness of a child? How do you react when you see injustice or if it happens to you? These are all very real situations. What about when good friends suffer because of their kids’ mistakes and hardheadedness, how do you respond? Your response is very important and like in anything in life, the better prepared you are the better you will do.
Do you live among people who seem to have forgotten about God? Do you live in a society that once embraced God yet has now rejected Him? If you do then realize that you are not alone and you are not the only person to experience such tragedy. The Bible says that “there is nothing new under the sun” and that phrase is so true. In fact the entire quote says it even better:
That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 1:9)
Whatever happens today is something that has already happened in the past. This of course deals with the attitude and actions of people in ever society. Daniel, from the O.T., was a man who lived among people who once embraced God but later rejected Him and then seemed to have forgotten about God. Daniel could easily have joined in with the culture of the time yet he chose to live counter-culture even though it cost him comfort. I would like to look at Daniel’s prayer in Daniel chapter 9 where we see the solution to the problem of living among people who once embraced God and now have rejected Him.
I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed and said, “Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, we have sinned, committed iniquity, acted wickedly and rebelled, even turning aside from Your Continue reading
