I will never leave you, nor forsake you

image-3.901629.66f4b3c08eThe title of this message comes from the Word of God.

“The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

The author of the book of Hebrews uses this quote in his message about the sufficiency of Christ as the Redeemer of all mankind.

Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,” (Hebrews 13:5)

Jesus on Divorce

jesus-teaching-1Over past 2 weeks, I have had an opportunity to teach Matthew 19 several different times. I wanted to share some of the insights with you here. Many people have questions about divorce. Many others have their own opinions on the subject of divorce. In order to find answers, we need to go to the source of wisdom, Jesus Christ, Himself. Jesus teaches on the subject of divorce in Matthew 19. I would like to examine this teaching here in this article. Continue reading

The Sermon on the Mount (Part 2)

jesus_vs_mankind_righteousness In the first article, we looked at the background and overview of the “Sermon on the Mount”. We saw that this sermon teaches about the righteousness/character of God. Without this righteousness, it is impossible to please God or enter into the Kingdom of heaven. As said, there are two types of righteousness in this world, the righteousness of man (found in all the different religions invented by mankind) and the righteousness of God. Continue reading

Some thoughts on divorce and Christian service

I had an interesting conversation the other day with a couple of pastors on the topic of “divorce“. Both pastors lead churches where the policy of the church is not to allow a divorced man to serve as a deacon in the church or to serve as pastor. That sounded okay at first but then it was revealed that it does not matter when the divorce took place (this is not the view of either pastor but a policy in the church constitution). I asked an obvious question, “What if the men were divorced before they were born again?”. Continue reading

Another lesbian divorce

If you are at all familiar with either the music world or the evils of the homosexual movement then you must know of Melissa Etheridge and her lesbian partner, Tammy Etheridge. They have been “married” since 2003 and have twins born in 2006. Melissa also has two older children from her previous partner, lesbian Julie Cypher.  They, of course, were/are proponents of gay marriage because they wanted to express their love in marriage like heterosexuals and they did not feel that they could fully express their love because they could not marry and show their commitment to one another. Why does God hate divorce so much?

27655-divorcel3I am currently teaching a class on marriage at our church. I have been teaching through the great study “Marriage without Regrets” produced by Precept Ministries. We have walked through the first 9 lessons and have finally arrived to lesson 10 which is about the permanence of marriage. As I was preparing I was so excited to be able to answer the question that I had (the title of this post). I would like to share a few points with you from the Scriptures on why God hates divorce so much.

I. What God has joined together let no man separate!

When Jesus was asked about marriage and Continue reading
