Coming under the protection of the Lord

Ruth-wsI am so excited about getting to meet with my Sunday School class this week at Southern Calvert Baptist Church. I have not been in the class for the past 4 Sundays due to ministry work in South Asia. I was so blessed to have members of the church fill in for me while God directed me to teach the Word in a difficult area of the world. This Sunday, as we are walking through the entire Bible in a three year period, we have come to the Old Testament book of Ruth. We have been tracing the line of the Messiah from Genesis and we have found Jesus in every book of the Bible. This week, we are going to learn how a Gentile pagan chooses to believe in the coming Messiah and come under the protection of the Lord. It is an amazing story for us Gentiles. Continue reading

Ruth’s Story; An example of Tragedy, Redemption, and Victory

I am excited about this Sunday’s lesson during children’s church. Last week we learned about Gideon, God’s brave warrior. Gideon was actually a coward, like everyone else around him, until God intervened and taught him to be a faithful warrior.

In the story of Ruth, we see tragedy leading to fear and then fear leading to trust in the Lord. God intervenes once again and teaches Ruth to be brave, just like He did with Gideon. Continue reading

Finding rest for your soul

Last night, I had the privilege of leading our youth meeting. As the young men of the youth group, we organized a special event for the girls in honor of the 8th of March, International Women’s Day. It was a fun night. One of the guys composed a poem to honor mothers. One of the praise and worship team members played a few “romantic” solos on his saxophone. The girls were surprised to receive flowers on behalf of the men of the youth group. Our special guest speaker was the Senior pastor of Good News church, Vasile Filat.
